Consumer Directed Services
The Consumer Directed Services (CDS) Program assists individuals with disabilities who are 18 years of age or older and are able to self-direct their own care. Consumers are responsible for hiring and managing their attendants to assist them with ADLS, such as:
-
bathing
-
dressing
-
personal hygiene
-
toileting
-
meal preparation
-
housekeeping
-
and medication setup and reminder
A family member or friend can be paid for taking care of the consumer, with the exception of a spouse. The consumer recruits, chooses, hires, trains, and manages their attendant; therefore, they are considered the employer.
